Why Complaining Against God During Hardship Only Hurts You

 Revelation 16:11 (NKJV)

“And they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.”

Reading this passage reminds me of some foolish responses we sometimes have when facing hardship. Foolish reactions often keep us from truly understanding God in times of difficulty. By letting go of these responses and trusting Him, we can navigate challenges more quickly and with greater clarity.

There are moments in life when we are in very difficult situations. We pray, fast, and trust God for change — yet the situation remains the same. Over time, frustration sets in, and it can begin to feel as though God is no longer powerful enough to intervene, or as if He is silent or distant.

Ironically, it is often in those very moments when trust is most needed that many people begin to complain against God. Some even go as far as blaming Him, murmuring, or speaking carelessly about Him — as though He personally caused their pain.

All you ought to do during difficult times is to cast all your cares on Jesus, because blaming God and speaking carelessly against Him will not help you.

Even if God allowed the situation, we must remember that He is also the only One with the power to bring us out of it. When we grow offended with God, curse Him, or turn our hearts against Him, we should ask ourselves: Who then do we expect to deliver us?

When you ask yourself who you expect to deliver you in difficult times and realize that only God can, you will learn to stand on His Word, because God responds swiftly to His promises.

The same God who has authority over the storm is the One we sometimes push away through bitterness and careless words.

Therefore, in times of difficulty, we must be careful with our words and our hearts toward God. Complaints may be human, but rebellion only deepens the wound. God remains the same — faithful, powerful, and able to save — and He is still the One who can bring us out.

Understanding why God allows suffering can help us respond rightly in these moments, instead of accusing Him unnecessarily.
