How Faith and Obedience Unlock God’s Miracles in Your Life

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to walk in God’s miracles effortlessly while others struggle endlessly, praying, fasting, and seeking, yet breakthrough seems just out of reach? The truth is, the secret isn’t always in what you do—it’s in how you align your life with God’s will. Faith, obedience, and standing firmly on God’s Word are the keys that unlock His supernatural power. In this post, we’ll explore how trusting God, acting on His Word, and living a life of obedience can open the door to miracles, breakthrough, and the fulfillment of your destiny.

As you study this lesson, you need to understand why God responds to His Word more than to our efforts

Why Faith Is the Foundation of Every Miracle.

Miracles are acts of God. No human being can perform a miracle without tapping into the supernatural. But how do we access that power? The foundation for connecting with the supernatural is faith.

One way to assess your faith and confirm you are on the right path is to ask yourself: How strong is your grasp of the fundamentals of the Christian faith?

Faith is the potent link that draws power from the unseen realm and releases it into the natural. It is the channel through which God’s power flows to make things happen.

This is why Jesus said:

Mark 11:22-23 (NKJV)

"So Jesus answered and said to them, 'Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, "Be removed and be cast into the sea," and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.'"

Before you can command a mountain to move and see results, you must first believe that what you are saying will come to pass. That is the essence of faith.

And don’t think your faith has to be huge before it works. Jesus emphasized this truth:

Luke 17:6 (NKJV)

"So the Lord said, 'If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, "Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea," and it would obey you.'"

Mustard seeds are tiny—perhaps one of the smallest seeds on earth. Yet Jesus assures us that even the smallest measure of genuine faith can move mountains.

The difference between those who see great things happen in God’s kingdom and those who do nothing is in how much they exercise their faith.

Through faith and obedience, you can receive everything God has prepared for you. You can read my story about how I used faith to avoid an unwanted punishment

Faith without action is like a seed that never gets planted—it will never grow. If you cannot take a Bible promise and act on it, you may never experience it. For example, the Bible says that if you lay your hands on the sick, they will recover. Go ahead—find someone in need, lay hands on them by faith, and watch God work.

The Word of God is always true, any day, any time, if we dare to act on it. So stop worrying about the size of your faith; start using the faith you already have.

But how do we grow in faith?

Faith does not come merely by praying and fasting. Faith comes through the Word of God and grows through experience.

Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

As you read and study God’s Word, you receive faith. As you step out and put the Word into practice, your faith begins to grow stronger. Every act of obedience, every word spoken by faith, every step taken in trust, strengthens your spiritual muscles.

The question is: Are you willing to act on what God has already placed in your heart? Your faith may be small now, but if you dare to use it, you will see mountains move in your life.

The Example of Abraham: How Faith Unlocks God’s Promises.

If there is anyone in the Bible from whom we should learn the life of faith, it is Abraham. He is rightly called the father of faith because of the extraordinary way he trusted God—even to the point of being willing to give God his only son, Isaac, just as God Himself later gave His only Son, Jesus, for the world.

To understand how Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness, read the post, How Abraham’s Belief Made Him Righteous: Unlocking God’s Promises

Abraham’s faith was so strong that he fully believed God could raise Isaac to life even if he had to sacrifice him. Can you see how Abraham’s faith was prophetic of what would later happen to Jesus? Jesus died, was buried, and God raised Him back to life, just as Abraham believed God could do for Isaac.

One Bible passage perfectly summarizes Abraham’s incredible faith:

Romans 4:17-22 (GNT)

"As the scripture says, 'I have made you father of many nations.' So the promise is good in the sight of God, in whom Abraham believed—the God who brings the dead to life and whose command brings into being what did not exist. Abraham believed and hoped, even when there was no reason for hoping, and so became 'the father of many nations.' Just as the scripture says, 'Your descendants will be as many as the stars.' He was then almost one hundred years old; but his faith did not weaken when he thought of his body, which was already practically dead, or of the fact that Sarah could not have children. His faith did not leave him, and he did not doubt God's promise; his faith filled him with power, and he gave praise to God. And being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore it was accounted to him for righteousness."

As you go through this lesson, discover the power of consistent obedience through the life of Moses

Notice the powerful words used to describe Abraham’s faith:

Not weak in faith – His faith remained strong despite circumstances.

His faith did not leave him – Faith was consistent, not temporary or situational.

He did not doubt God’s promises – Abraham fully trusted God’s Word.

His faith filled him with power – Faith empowered him to act boldly.

He gave praise to God – Gratitude and worship flowed naturally from his faith.

Being fully convinced – He was absolutely confident in God’s ability.

These words are potent descriptors of the quality of Abraham’s faith. Each one highlights a characteristic we should cultivate in our own lives.

We could take each of these points and study them in depth to learn how to develop faith like Abraham—faith that does not waver, faith that empowers action, faith that praises God even before the promise is fulfilled.

God included Abraham’s story in the Scriptures for our benefit. We are meant to learn from his example and understand how to operate in the same type of faith that can move mountains, overcome impossibilities, and bring God’s promises into our lives.

Take time to reflect on Abraham’s faith. Ask yourself:

Is my faith strong in situations that seem impossible?

Do I remain convinced of God’s promises even when circumstances appear dead?

Does my faith empower me to act boldly for God?

The life of Abraham reminds us that faith is not just believing—it’s trusting, acting, praising, and being fully convinced. The more we study his example, the more our faith can grow to the level of the father of faith himself.

Why Miracles Alone Cannot Change the Human Heart.

When we see people receiving miracles, it’s easy to think that witnessing such supernatural acts will automatically lead them to serve God. But history and Scripture tell us otherwise. If miracles alone could transform hearts, Jesus would not have had only twelve disciples.

Discover the important lesson that confused me for years until I understood the truth in the post, Why Miracles Don’t Change the Heart

During His ministry, Jesus performed countless miracles. He healed the sick, restored sight to the blind, and even raised the dead. People were amazed and often followed Him, but many of these same people later turned against Him and called for His crucifixion. This clearly shows that miracles alone do not change anyone’s heart.

If we look at the story of the children of Israel, we see a similar pattern. God performed miraculous signs in Egypt, including the ten plagues and the parting of the Red Sea. One would expect that these miracles would create unwavering trust and faith in the Israelites. Yet, time and again, they doubted God, complained, and even longed to return to Egypt. Miracles did not automatically produce obedience or devotion.

This gives us a very important lesson: as God works through us to perform miracles, we must not assume the miracle itself will make people serve Him. Miracles are powerful, but their role is primarily to attract attention. They can draw crowds and create opportunities for ministry, but true transformation comes from the Word of God.

The Word has the power to change hearts and align lives with God’s will. When we intentionally teach people God’s Word, explain His works, and show them how to fellowship with Him, lives begin to change from the inside out. Transformation happens when people understand God, believe His promises, and apply His Word in their lives.

This is exactly why Jesus commanded His disciples to go into the world and preach the gospel:

Mark 16:15 NKJV

"And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.'"

Notice that the focus is not miracles, but the preaching of the gospel. Miracles are tools, but the Word is the foundation. Many gifted ministers make the mistake of prioritizing spiritual gifts above the Word. They place the gift at the center of ministry, assuming that miraculous displays alone will draw people to God. But the truth is that gifts without the Word are powerless for lasting change.

Think of it this way: miracles can open the door, but the Word is what invites people inside. A gift may awe someone momentarily, but it is the Word that transforms character, renews minds, and builds faith. A church filled with miracles but lacking solid teaching of the Word will often see temporary excitement rather than permanent change.

So, as you serve in ministry or even share God’s work in everyday life, remember this principle: place the Word above the gift. Let teaching and the gospel guide the miraculous acts you perform. The miracle attracts attention, but the Word changes lives.

When people encounter God, let them first experience His Word, then see His works. This is how true discipleship is built, and this is how lives are transformed for eternity.

The Role of Obedience in Experiencing Breakthrough.

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to breakthrough effortlessly, while others struggle endlessly despite praying, fasting, and seeking God? The secret often isn’t in their strategies or prayers—it’s in obedience. Yes, the single quality that often separates those who experience breakthroughs from those who don’t is a heart fully submitted to God’s instructions.

Obedience is more than just following rules or doing good things. In the Bible, obedience is a lifestyle—a deliberate alignment of your will with God’s will. It is about doing what God says even when it doesn’t make sense to you, even when it seems inconvenient, and even when no one is watching.

You can read the story of how Joshua’s obedience led to victory for him and the Israelites in the post, Joshua and the Battle of Ai: Lessons on Obedience, Preparation, and Victory

Take the story of Joshua and the walls of Jericho. God commanded the Israelites to march around the city for seven days. It may have seemed strange, even a bit foolish, to the human eye. But Joshua obeyed. On the seventh day, the walls fell, and victory came (Joshua 6:15-20 NKJV). That breakthrough did not come because they were strong or smart; it came because they obeyed God completely.

Here’s a question for you: Are there areas of your life where you know what God wants you to do but are hesitant to obey? Maybe it’s a call to forgive someone, to step out in faith in your career, to tithe, or to speak a prophetic word. Whatever it is, hesitation or half-hearted obedience can stall your breakthrough.

Obedience isn’t always easy. Sometimes it goes against your feelings, your comfort, or even your logic. But God wants you to understand this principle: your breakthrough is directly linked to your willingness to obey His instructions, no matter the cost.

Consider Achan’s story (Joshua 7 NKJV). God commanded that nothing should be taken from Jericho, yet Achan disobeyed and hid some of the spoils. That single act of disobedience caused Israel to lose the battle at Ai, and many lives were lost. Here’s the lesson: even hidden disobedience can block breakthroughs in your life. Obedience unlocks favor; disobedience invites delay.

Now, let’s make this interactive. Think about your life right now. Are there areas where God has given you clear direction, but you’ve been procrastinating or ignoring it? Write them down. Identify the areas where obedience could lead to your next breakthrough.

No one can serve God using worldly wisdom and still expect the right results. This is why, in the post ‘Are You Too Wise to Obey God? The Lesson of the Wall of Jericho,’ we explained the importance of following God on His terms

Another key point is that obedience is often tested. God doesn’t ask us to obey to make our lives harder; He asks obedience to train us, build our faith, and position us for His promises. Abraham’s obedience to offer Isaac was a test, and it became the foundation of his blessing (Genesis 22 NKJV). Obedience builds spiritual muscle that can handle greater blessings.

Remember, obedience and prayer work hand in hand. You may pray and fast, but if your heart is resistant or your actions contradict God’s instructions, your breakthrough may be delayed. True obedience is action backed by faith—doing what God says because you trust that He knows best.

Here’s a practical step: choose one area of obedience today. It could be giving, forgiving, speaking truth, or following a specific calling. Commit to doing it without delay and with a willing heart. Watch how God honors that obedience. Sometimes, the breakthrough is instantaneous; sometimes, it comes gradually—but it always comes.

Hebrews 5:8-9 NKJV reminds us:

"Though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him."

Notice the connection—obedience is not just a requirement, it is the path to experiencing salvation, favor, and breakthrough. Jesus Himself modeled perfect obedience, and because of that, He was able to accomplish the ultimate breakthrough for humanity.

So today, reflect on this question: Are you willing to submit your will to God fully, even in small things? Because breakthrough often begins in the small acts of obedience that most people overlook. The God who honors obedience is faithful, and your next breakthrough may be waiting on your decision to obey right now.

Don’t delay. Obey. Step out in faith. Your breakthrough is not just about effort or prayer—it’s about aligning your life with God’s will and trusting Him completely.

When Breakthrough Is Hidden in Obedience.

The world is often called the children of disobedience, but as believers, we are called the children of obedience. This is why living in obedience to God’s Word and His directives is not optional—it is the pathway to breakthrough, purpose, and divine favor.

Because your breakthrough may be hidden in your obedience, we discussed this subject in more detail in the post, Your Breakthrough Might Be Hidden in Obedience to Authority

Take the story of David as an example. David was just a young boy tending his father’s sheep, seemingly ordinary and far from the world’s spotlight. Yet, while he was quietly caring for his flock, God was preparing him for greatness. God was training him to become the man who would one day be Israel’s king. But the world would never have seen David’s potential if it weren’t for one critical factor: obedience.

God prompted David’s parents to send him with food to the battlefield to deliver to his brothers. Imagine the scene: a young boy, small and seemingly defenseless, heading straight into a war zone. Naturally, one might think of the dangers. What if David got hurt? What would his parents do? But God’s plan was bigger than fear. His parents didn’t let anxiety or hesitation stop them from obeying God’s leading.

David, for his part, didn’t resist. He didn’t make excuses, and he didn’t argue that he had more important responsibilities tending the sheep. He simply obeyed. And in that act of obedience, God orchestrated one of the most defining moments of David’s life: his encounter with Goliath, which not only made him famous but set the stage for his destiny as king.

Think about that for a moment. If David had disobeyed that simple instruction, he might have remained an unknown shepherd boy. His breakthrough—the moment that launched him into God’s plan—was hidden in an act of obedience that seemed ordinary at the time.

This principle is true for all of us. Many of the blessings, promotions, and breakthroughs we long for are hidden behind obedience. Sometimes it’s obedience to a spiritual leader, sometimes to the Word of God, sometimes to the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit, or even to our spouse or mentor. Breakthrough often requires humility, patience, and a willingness to submit—even when it seems inconvenient or risky.

God does not call the lazy or idle. He calls those who are willing to respond faithfully, even in small ways. The simplest acts of obedience—like showing up when God directs, speaking a word of encouragement, or stepping out in faith—can open doors to life-changing opportunities.

So, the question is: Are we willing to obey, even when it’s uncomfortable, inconvenient, or scary? Or will we let fear, pride, or excuses hold us back from the destiny God has prepared?

May we not be stubborn or disobedient when God is ready to announce us. Let us follow His instructions faithfully, knowing that obedience is the secret that unlocks breakthrough. As it was with David, your moment of destiny may be just one act of obedience away.

Standing on God’s Word Instead of Trying to Manipulate God.

Have you ever found yourself praying with a list of demands, thinking, “If I do this, God must do that”? Many Christians fall into this trap—treating God like a vending machine where you insert effort, prayer, or sacrifice, and expect a guaranteed return. But the truth is, God isn’t manipulated, He is obeyed.

Standing on God’s Word means believing what He says, trusting His promises, and aligning your life with His instructions, rather than trying to twist situations to make Him act your way. It’s not about the volume of your prayers, the length of your fasting, or how dramatic your acts of devotion are—it’s about faithful obedience and confident trust in His Word.

Sometimes, when the Word of God is spoken, hell may break loose. Read the full story in the post, When Hell Breaks Loose After God’s Word: Why Victory Is Near

Let’s make this practical. Imagine you are facing a financial challenge. You could pray, plead, and try to figure out ways to “convince” God to bless you. That might involve anxiety, overthinking, or even manipulating circumstances. Or, you could stand on God’s Word, like Philippians 4:19 NKJV says:

"And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

Standing on that promise means trusting that God’s provision is real, and then acting wisely in line with His Word—budgeting, seeking opportunities, and remaining faithful in giving. You’re not trying to force God to act; you are partnering with Him in faith.

The difference is huge. When you manipulate God, you drain your faith and cultivate frustration. You focus on what you can do to make Him act, which often leads to disappointment. But when you stand on His Word, your faith grows because you are anchoring your life in His truth, not your emotions or clever tricks.

Here’s another way to think about it: If a child believes their parent’s promise that dinner will be ready at 6 PM, they don’t try to force the parent—they wait, trusting the promise. Similarly, God’s Word is the ultimate promise. We walk in obedience and trust, knowing He will do what He has said in His perfect timing.

Jesus gave us a perfect example. He never tried to manipulate God’s hand to avoid the cross. In Gethsemane, He prayed, “Not My will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42 NKJV). He stood on the Word and promise of God’s plan, even when it meant immense struggle. That obedience led to the ultimate victory for humanity.

As you read this, remember that even when you are obedient and walking in God’s will, victory does not always come instantly.

So, here’s a question for you: Are you trying to manipulate God through clever schemes, fear, or desperation? Or are you standing boldly on His Word, trusting that He is faithful?

Start today by reading a promise from the Bible, declaring it, and acting in line with it, not manipulating circumstances. Watch how your faith grows, your perspective changes, and God’s power begins to move in your life—not because you forced it, but because you trusted Him completely.

Standing on God’s Word is not passive; it’s active, confident, and powerful. Stop trying to make God act—let Him act in His perfect timing as you obey and trust.

As we conclude this lesson, remember this important truth: do not try to bribe God with vows in order to receive answers. Learn to stand firmly on His Word.

God’s Principles for Healthy Relationships: Wisdom for Dealing with Toxicity and Conflict.

There is only one way to build healthy relationships and godly marriages: by doing what the Scriptures instruct us to do.  If this one way is neglected marriage loses its sweetness.

The Bible has already given us the fruit of the Spirit, which represents the character of a true believer. When two individuals in a relationship genuinely operate in the fruit of the Spirit, it is impossible for that relationship to be unhealthy. Two people living by these principles will naturally create an atmosphere of love, patience, humility, and understanding.

The problem in our society today is that many of us want to do things outside the Bible. We want to live according to what seems best to us rather than according to what God has already instructed.

Think about it this way: if a manufacturer gives someone a manual explaining how to use a newly purchased device for the best performance, and that person ignores the manual, what do you think will happen?

Most likely, the person will quickly damage or spoil the appliance.

In the same way, many people experience terrible marriages and broken relationships, yet they turn around and blame God. But God has already given us the manual for life—the Bible. It contains clear guidance for building healthy, stable, and lasting relationships. The real question is: how many of us actually study it?

This also determines the level of satisfaction people experience in a relationship, as discussed in the post, Three Levels of Satisfaction and Happiness in Marriage

How many of us take time to read it and apply its principles to our relationships?

How many of us even consider it relevant to our lives today?

Quote me anywhere on this: “No two people who are genuinely operating by the principles of the Bible in their relationship will have a bad relationship.”

If you think you have found such a case, please let me know. Let’s examine it together and see why a relationship built on the true principles of God’s Word would fail. I can confidently say that when the Word of God is sincerely applied by both people, the result will always be a healthy relationship.

Good preparation before entering a relationship helps prevent insecurity from developing

So stay with me as we explore how to build healthy relationships God’s way.

Why God’s Principles Matter in Relationships.

Let’s explore why God’s principles matter in a relationship and why we should apply them.

God’s principles matter in a relationship because He is the Alpha and the Omega of relationships. He is the one who designed and created them. Long before human beings began to define relationships in their own ways, God had already established the pattern for how they should work.

Without these principles, beauty alone will never be enough to sustain a relationship

From the very beginning of creation, we see that relationships were part of God’s plan for humanity. When God created man, He observed something important. Even though Adam was living in a perfect environment, God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone.” Adam himself had not yet realized his need for a close companion, but God knew. As the Creator, He understood what man needed even before man understood it himself.

You remember the story. Adam was asleep when God took one of his ribs and created Eve for him. This was God’s way of showing Adam that he was created to live in relationship with another person. Eve was not taken from Adam’s head to rule over him, nor from his feet to be trampled on, but from his side to walk beside him. From the very beginning, God was teaching the principles of companionship, unity, and partnership.

This tells us something very important: relationships did not originate from human ideas or cultural inventions. They originated from God. Since God is the designer of relationships, it only makes sense that His principles are the ones that will make relationships work best.

This principle equips you with the right attitude to treat everyone well, as discussed in the post, Treat People Right: Respect Everyone Regardless of Their Status.

Think about it this way. Whenever someone buys a new device—whether it is a phone, a generator, or a household appliance—the manufacturer usually includes a manual. That manual explains how the device should be used so that it can function properly and last for a long time. A wise person reads that manual and follows the instructions carefully. Such a person understands that the manufacturer knows the product better than anyone else.

But imagine someone who decides to ignore the manual completely. The person begins to use the device however it seems right in his own eyes. Before long, the device will likely become damaged or stop working properly. Not because the manufacturer created a faulty product, but because the instructions were ignored.

The same principle applies to relationships. God did not create relationships and then abandon us to figure everything out on our own. Instead, He gave us a manual for life—the Bible. In the Scriptures, God provides wisdom, guidance, and principles that help us build healthy and meaningful relationships. These principles apply not only to marriage but also to friendships, family relationships, and every other kind of human interaction.

Unfortunately, many people today try to build relationships without consulting the manual. They rely on personal opinions, cultural trends, emotions, or social media advice. When problems arise, they sometimes blame God or conclude that relationships simply do not work.

But the truth is that relationships work best when they follow the design of the One who created them.

A wise person understands this and chooses to follow God’s instructions. When we apply God’s principles—such as love, patience, forgiveness, humility, and selflessness—we create the kind of environment where relationships can thrive.

That is why God’s principles matter. They are not restrictions meant to limit us; they are guidelines meant to help us enjoy the relationships God has given us. When we follow them, we align ourselves with the wisdom of the greatest Designer of all.

Before we proceed to the next topic, it’s important to understand why parents need to maintain strong communication with their children in today’s information age

Recognizing the Signs of a Toxic Relationship.

Not every relationship that begins well remains healthy. Some relationships slowly become unhealthy, draining, and emotionally damaging. The challenge is that many people stay in toxic relationships for a long time simply because they fail to recognize the warning signs early.

So let me ask you a question: How do you know when a relationship is becoming toxic?

A toxic relationship is one that consistently harms your emotional, mental, or spiritual well-being. Instead of bringing peace, growth, and encouragement, it leaves you feeling drained, anxious, confused, or constantly unhappy. The sad part is that toxicity often does not appear suddenly. It usually grows slowly, little by little, until it becomes normal.

One of the first signs of a toxic relationship is constant disrespect. In a healthy relationship, both people value and honor each other. But in a toxic one, insults, harsh words, and belittling comments become common. You may hear things like, “You are not good enough,” or “Nobody else will tolerate you.” Over time, these words begin to damage your confidence and self-worth.

Another major sign is constant control. A toxic partner may try to control who you talk to, where you go, or even how you think. At first it may look like care or concern, but gradually it becomes manipulation. You start to feel like you must always explain yourself or ask for permission before making simple decisions.

Let me ask you something to think about: Do you feel free to be yourself in the relationship, or do you constantly feel like you are walking on eggshells?

If you are always afraid of saying the wrong thing because it might trigger anger or conflict, that is a serious warning sign.

A third sign of a toxic relationship is constant drama and unresolved conflict. Every relationship has disagreements—that is normal. But in a toxic relationship, arguments never truly get resolved. Instead of finding solutions, the same issues keep repeating again and again. Apologies may be given, but the behavior never changes.

Another important sign is emotional exhaustion. Healthy relationships should add value to your life, not constantly drain your energy. If you notice that after spending time with someone you always feel stressed, discouraged, or emotionally tired, it may be time to step back and evaluate the relationship.

Here is another question for you: Does the relationship make you a better person, or is it slowly bringing out the worst in you?

Toxic relationships often lead people to become more angry, insecure, jealous, or bitter. Instead of growth, they produce frustration and emotional pain.

One more sign worth mentioning is lack of accountability. In toxic relationships, one person often refuses to admit when they are wrong. Everything becomes someone else’s fault. Blame is constantly shifted, and genuine responsibility is avoided.

Recognizing these signs is very important because what you tolerate today can shape your future tomorrow.

Healthy relationships are built on respect, honesty, kindness, and mutual support. They should help you grow, not shrink. They should bring peace, not constant confusion.

So take a moment and reflect: Are the relationships in your life building you up, or slowly breaking you down?

Sometimes the first step toward a healthier life is simply recognizing when a relationship is no longer healthy. And once you see it clearly, you can begin to make wiser decisions about the kind of relationships you allow in your life

How to Deal with Difficult or Toxic People Wisely.

At some point in life, everyone encounters difficult people. It may be a friend, a family member, a colleague, or even someone in church. No matter where we go, relationships are part of life, and unfortunately, not every relationship will be easy or pleasant.

Read the post, How to Handle a Toxic Person in a Relationship Without Losing Yourself,’ to learn effective ways to navigate a toxic relationship while protecting yourself.

So let me start with a simple question: Have you ever met someone who always seems to bring tension, drama, or negativity wherever they go?

You try to be kind, but they criticize. You try to be peaceful, but they provoke arguments. You try to help, yet they still find a way to create problems. Dealing with such people can be exhausting if you don’t handle the situation wisely.

The first step in dealing with difficult or toxic people is recognizing who they are. Not everyone who disagrees with you is toxic, but a toxic person usually shows consistent patterns of harmful behavior. They may manipulate, constantly complain, spread negativity, or refuse to take responsibility for their actions.

Now here is something important to remember: you cannot control other people, but you can control how you respond to them.

Many people make the mistake of trying to change a toxic person. They spend their time explaining, arguing, correcting, or trying to fix them. But the truth is that people only change when they personally decide to change. No amount of pressure can force someone to become a better person.

Instead of trying to change them, a wiser approach is to manage how much influence they have in your life.

Another wise strategy is setting healthy boundaries. Boundaries simply mean knowing what you will accept and what you will not tolerate. Difficult people often take advantage of those who never set limits. But when you respectfully establish boundaries, you protect your peace and emotional well-being.

Let me ask you something to think about: Do you feel comfortable saying “no” when necessary, or do you always feel pressured to please everyone?

Learning to say no is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of wisdom.

It is also important to avoid unnecessary arguments with difficult people. Some individuals thrive on conflict. They enjoy debates, drama, and emotional reactions. When you constantly engage in arguments with such people, you are simply feeding the cycle.

Sometimes the wisest response is calm silence or a simple change of subject. Not every battle is worth fighting.

Another helpful approach is protecting your emotional energy. If you know someone regularly drains your energy with negativity, you may need to limit how often you interact with them. This does not mean you hate them or wish them harm. It simply means you value your mental and emotional health.

Think about this for a moment: after spending time with someone, do you feel encouraged or emotionally drained?

Your answer can reveal a lot about the kind of influence that person has on your life.

Finally, dealing wisely with difficult people also means maintaining your own character. It is easy to become angry, bitter, or resentful when someone treats you poorly. But responding with wisdom, patience, and self-control protects your integrity.

You cannot always avoid difficult people, but you can choose how their behavior affects you.

And sometimes, the greatest wisdom is knowing when to step back, when to stay calm, and when to protect your peace.

When Marriage Struggles Come from Rejecting God’s Word.

Our attitude toward the Word of God shows whether we are truly building our lives and relationships upon it or not.

When we fail to build our lives on the Word, it simply means we have rejected it. We begin to live independently of the Word of God. Yet this should never be the case. We came from God, and the Word of God is God. Therefore, we need the Word to live a meaningful and successful life here on earth.

Now think about this for a moment: what happens when a man rejects the Word of God, which is supposed to guide and sustain his life?

The same thing that happens to a fish when it is taken out of water will happen to him.

A fish is designed to live in water. The moment it is removed from that environment, it begins to struggle for survival. Eventually, it will die because it is no longer in the environment that sustains its life.

In the same way, many relationships today are struggling because people have rejected the Word of God. Some people see the Word as being too difficult to practice, so they simply ignore it. Others believe it is outdated or irrelevant for modern relationships.

As I have already pointed out, many people do not believe the Bible is the manual for life, so they choose to live without it.

When women understand the principles of God’s Word, they will see why they should always seek their husband’s consent before making a vow, as discussed in ‘Why Women Should Get Their Husband or Father’s Consent Before Making a Vow

I once shared the story of a man whose marriage completely fell apart because he refused to follow the principles of the Word of God. Instead of allowing Scripture to guide his decisions, he relied on his own ideas and emotions. Unfortunately, the result was a broken relationship.

Today, the internet and popular culture have become the manuals many people use to run their homes. Some people follow relationship advice from social media. Others are determined to repeat the same patterns they saw in their parents’ marriages. Still others want to learn from people online whose own relationships are not working.

One day, someone was discussing with me an advice given to him by an uncle or family member. I asked him a simple question: “Do you want your marriage to look like his?”

He immediately answered, “No.”

That question alone revealed something very important.

Now, am I saying that a person in a bad relationship cannot give good advice? Not at all. Anyone can share something useful. But the wise thing to do is to sieve every advice through the Word of God.

If what someone says contradicts the Word of God, it is better not to follow it. Advice that goes against God’s principles will often produce the same kind of broken relationships we see around us.

Sadly, many young people today say they do not want a “Bible kind of relationship,” yet they still want happiness and stability in their marriages. Unfortunately, many of these relationships fall apart not long after the wedding.

Couples or people in a relationship should learn to forgive, remembering that vengeance belongs to the Lord

Some people then ask, “But aren’t there many Christians who also have bad marriages or even divorce?”

Yes, there are. But the real question is this: are they actually practicing the Word of God in their relationships?

Many people identify as Christians, yet they do not see the need to build their lives and relationships according to the Word of God. When the designer’s manual is ignored, the results will always reflect that decision.

So before we ask why some Christian relationships suffer, we must first ask a deeper question: are they truly living according to the Word of God, or have they also neglected the manual given by the Designer?

Before you move on from this lesson, take the time to understand why you should not bribe God with a vow, as many do, but instead depend on His Word to receive answers

Building Character: Responsibility, Humility, and Personal Growth in Christ

Do you want to grow—not just in knowledge, but in strength, influence, and spiritual depth? The truth is, growth doesn’t happen by accident. It doesn’t come from wishing, hoping, or waiting for someone else to “make you grow.” Real growth starts when you take full responsibility for your life, your character, and your walk with God.

As you grow in your knowledge of God, you should begin to understand your worth as a child of God and why people will value you differently

Think about it: no one can eat for you, sleep for you, or pray for you. And no one can grow your spirit for you either. The question is—are you willing to take ownership of your spiritual journey, step out in humility, and allow God to shape your character day by day?

In this post, we’ll explore why personal responsibility, humility, and intentional character-building are the keys to lasting growth. We’ll also dig into how guarding your mind, practicing gratitude, and embracing obedience can unlock breakthroughs and blessings that most people miss.

Here’s a quick reflection to start with:

Are you actively investing in your growth, or just hoping someone else will guide you to where you want to be?

Do you approach life with humility, ready to learn, or pridefully insisting on your way?

Are your thoughts, habits, and choices shaping the future you desire, or are they holding you back?

Keep these questions in mind as you read. Each section will challenge you, inspire you, and give you practical steps to take control of your growth and character—so you don’t just survive, you thrive in life and in Christ.

Before we begin the first subheading of this lesson, do not forget this truth: if you do not value God’s presence, you will lose it

Why Personal Responsibility Is the Beginning of Growth.

Do you truly want to grow in your personal walk with God? If the answer is yes, then the first step is taking full responsibility for your own spiritual growth. Growth doesn’t happen automatically. It isn’t something someone else can do for you, no matter how faithful your pastor, mentor, or friend is. You have to decide what daily habits, disciplines, and spiritual practices will help you grow—and then commit to them consistently.

In the post Taking Responsibility for Your Actions: The First Step to Personal and Spiritual Growth,’ we explain in detail what it means to take personal responsibility for your spiritual growth

Until you make that decision, spiritual growth will remain stagnant. There are certain things in life that cannot be delegated or outsourced, no matter how much you wish they could. Eating, sleeping, exercising, and growing spiritually are all personal responsibilities. Just as no one can eat for you or sleep for you, no one can grow your spirit for you.

For instance, you may be forced to attend church, sit in a Bible study, or listen to sermons. But no one can make you pay attention or truly absorb what you hear. The moment you decide to focus, to listen actively, and to apply what you learn, is the moment real growth begins. Similarly, no amount of external pressure can make you pray if your heart isn’t engaged. True prayer comes from your personal commitment to connect with God.

Perhaps the most challenging aspect of spiritual growth for many is fasting. Fasting often requires going without food for hours or even days to seek God’s presence. It’s uncomfortable, it can be physically draining, and it tests your discipline. Many shy away from fasting simply because it’s difficult. But if you are serious about growing spiritually, you must learn how to fast. Decide when and how you will fast in order to strengthen your spirit man. Fasting is not just an act of physical restraint—it is a spiritual exercise that aligns your heart, mind, and body with God.

As you take responsibility for your spiritual growth, you must understand the power of consistency, because it is the key to excellence

If Jesus, our Master, took the time to fast—even in the midst of His busy ministry—then we must also take it seriously. Don’t let misconceptions, excuses, or peer opinions stop you from practicing this vital spiritual discipline.

The principle here is simple: spiritual growth is personal. No pastor, teacher, or friend can do it for you. They can guide you, encourage you, and point you in the right direction, but the responsibility to act, obey, and develop your relationship with God rests solely on your shoulders. Growth requires intentionality, consistency, and the courage to make daily choices that nurture your spirit.

So ask yourself: Are you willing to take personal responsibility for your spiritual growth today? Will you commit to praying, fasting, studying the Word, and practicing what you learn, even when it’s hard or inconvenient? Growth begins when you take ownership. The moment you stop relying on others to “make you grow” and start actively investing in your own spiritual life, you will see transformation.

Remember, your spiritual life is like a garden. You can have all the tools, advice, and fertilizers in the world, but if you don’t personally water it, nurture it, and remove the weeds, it will never thrive. Decide today to take responsibility. Your growth is in your hands—and God will honor your commitment.

Before moving to the next subject in this discussion, take time to understand whether you are internally or externally motivated, and which type of motivation is better

Humility: Understanding Your Place in Life and Growth.

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to grow faster, achieve more, and handle success with ease, while others struggle despite having talent or opportunities? One secret that’s often overlooked is humility. Humility is not thinking less of yourself—it’s thinking of yourself less and understanding your proper place in life, in the world, and before God.

Humility teaches you that no matter the level God takes you to, you are always in the middle—there will always be people ahead of you, and others coming behind you

Humility begins with self-awareness. It’s the ability to see yourself clearly: your strengths, weaknesses, and limits. Without humility, you might overestimate your abilities, ignore wise counsel, or resist correction. But when you embrace humility, you’re open to learning, growth, and guidance from others. Imagine a tree trying to grow without roots—it will topple in the first storm. Humility is like roots; it keeps you grounded, connected, and able to withstand life’s challenges.

The Bible emphasizes humility in several ways. Proverbs 22:4 (NKJV) says:

"By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honor, and life."

Notice how humility is directly linked to growth, honor, and life itself. It is not weakness; it is a pathway to strength.

One interactive way to check your humility is by asking yourself: “Am I willing to listen and learn from others, even when I think I know better?” True humility doesn’t diminish your worth; it positions you for greater wisdom and opportunities. When you approach life with humility, you are more approachable, teachable, and respected. People naturally want to collaborate with those who can admit mistakes, acknowledge limits, and learn from experience.

Humility also affects your relationship with God. Jesus, the ultimate example of humility, said in Matthew 23:12 (NKJV):

"And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

When you recognize that your life, talents, and opportunities are not solely your own, but gifts from God, you stop living in pride and start aligning your actions with His will. Humility opens doors for divine guidance and blessings that pride often blocks.

You should also know that God has many people who can replace you, and this should keep you humble.

Here’s an interactive challenge for you: Think of a recent situation where your pride may have kept you from learning or connecting with someone. Could choosing humility have changed the outcome? Write it down, reflect on it, and pray for the courage to approach similar situations differently in the future.

Finally, understand that humility is a journey, not a one-time act. It’s about continually recognizing your place in life, valuing others, seeking wisdom, and staying teachable. The more you practice humility, the more doors open for personal growth, relationships, and spiritual depth.

Your reaction when your weakness is highlighted reveals how humble you truly are

Remember, life rewards those who know their place—not by demeaning themselves, but by understanding that growth often comes from listening, learning, and walking in the wisdom of humility. Start today: take one small step to put pride aside, acknowledge your limits, and seek wisdom. You will be amazed at how it transforms your life.

Why No One Is Indispensable in God’s Work.

Many Christians serve in the work of God as if everything would stop without them. They act as though God is somehow at their mercy, and that His plans cannot succeed unless they are involved. While it is true that each of us is important in the kingdom, the reality is that God can accomplish His purposes without any one of us.

The Bible makes this crystal clear. Jesus said in Luke 19:40 (NKJV):

"I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out."

Here, God is saying something profound: if humans refuse to worship Him or participate in His work, He can raise up something else—even stones—to fulfill His purposes. In other words, no one is indispensable to God. Pride or self-importance in His work is dangerous.

Now that you know you are not indispensable in His work, you should be mindful of the thoughts you allow into your mind, because they can either build you up or break you

Humility is the key to remaining useful in the kingdom of God. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6, NKJV). If we want to continue receiving His grace, if we want to remain effective in His work, we must stay humble. Humility allows God to work through us without obstruction. Pride, on the other hand, can block blessings, limit influence, and even make us ineffective in the tasks God assigns.

Think about it: every time you serve God, it should be with a mindset of privilege and honor, not entitlement. The moment we begin to think that the work of God depends solely on us, we open the door to pride. And when pride takes root, we start comparing ourselves with others, demanding recognition, and losing sight of the true purpose: serving God faithfully.

God’s work is bigger than any individual. He does not need our skills, our position, or our popularity to accomplish His plans. Yet, He chooses to use us, which is a privilege and an opportunity. When we serve with humility, recognizing that we are simply vessels for His glory, God’s power flows freely through us, and our service becomes truly effective.

A sound mind is indispensable if you are to remain relevant in the matters of the kingdom

Here’s a question to reflect on: Are you serving God as if His work cannot proceed without you, or are you serving with humility, knowing that you are a tool in His hands? True servants recognize that their value lies not in their titles or visibility but in their willingness to be used by God.

So today, let’s remember: no one is indispensable in God’s work. Pride can make us think we are irreplaceable, but God can replace us if we allow arrogance to creep in. Humility, on the other hand, positions us to remain in God’s grace, to continue being useful in His kingdom, and to experience the joy that comes from serving faithfully without selfish ambition.

Serve with humility. Let go of pride. Recognize the privilege of being used by God. And watch as He multiplies your efforts far beyond what you could imagine—because when we are humble, God’s power is limitless, and His purposes are unstoppable.

Guarding Your Mind: The Power of Your Subconscious Programming.

Your mind is like a garden. What you plant in it determines what grows. Positive thoughts, God’s Word, and empowering ideas produce growth, peace, and success. Negative thoughts, lies, and ungodly influences produce stress, fear, and failure. This is why guarding your mind is one of the most important things you can do for your life.

The Bible emphasizes this principle in Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV):

"Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life."

Here, “heart” refers to the mind and inner thoughts—the place where your subconscious programming takes root. What you feed your subconscious will influence your actions, habits, and even the direction of your life.

As we discuss this subject further, remember that we must guide our subconscious mind, because it is being programmed daily

Have you ever noticed how sometimes you act against your own best interests? Or why negative thoughts seem to replay over and over? That’s your subconscious mind at work, repeating programming it has stored over time. If your mind has been filled with fear, doubt, or self-limiting beliefs, your life will reflect that. On the other hand, if your subconscious is filled with faith, confidence, and Godly thoughts, you will naturally produce positive outcomes.

Here’s the interactive part: take a moment and ask yourself: What messages am I feeding my subconscious daily? Are they mostly fear-based—“I can’t do this,” “I’m not enough,” “I will fail”? Or are they faith-based—“I can do all things through Christ,” “God has plans to prosper me,” “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Philippians 4:13, Jeremiah 29:11, Psalm 139:14)?

The amazing thing is, your mind can be reprogrammed. Just like a computer, your subconscious can be updated. Every time you meditate on God’s Word, speak affirmations of faith, or visualize success, you are reprogramming your subconscious. Over time, it begins to automatically align your actions, decisions, and responses with these truths.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) teaches:

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

Transformation begins with the mind. Renewing your thoughts daily with Scripture, prayer, and positive ideas ensures that your subconscious is working for you, not against you.

Let’s make this practical: start small. For the next week, write down three empowering truths from God’s Word every morning. Speak them aloud. Repeat them during the day. Observe how your thoughts, actions, and decisions begin to shift. Your subconscious will start to reflect the programming you are feeding it.

Remember, your mind is your most powerful tool, and guarding it is your responsibility. Protect it from negative media, toxic relationships, and self-doubt. Feed it daily with faith, wisdom, and Godly principles. The more intentional you are, the stronger your mind becomes, and the more unstoppable you will be in life.

Your life begins in the mind. Guard it. Program it well. Watch your world transform.

Developing Gratitude by Recognizing God’s Daily Benefits.

One thing you should never neglect if you want to continually enjoy the benefits of heaven is gratitude. Gratitude is more than just saying “thank you” occasionally—it is a heart posture that communicates to heaven how appreciative you are for all that God is doing in your life. When you are truly thankful, you open yourself up to more blessings.

It is a good attitude to recognize God’s daily benefits

Many of us are fixated on the “big things” we want God to do for us—promotion, wealth, healing, success—yet we neglect the daily, often unnoticed blessings that sustain our very lives. These small but essential benefits come from heaven every single day, and failing to acknowledge them is like walking past a treasure without picking it up.

Take a moment and reflect on what you have today that many people around the world may not enjoy:

You can eat and digest food without anyone helping you.

You can breathe freely with no external assistance.

Your kidneys and liver function properly.

You can bathe yourself and move your body with ease.

You can see, hear, talk, and use your hands effectively.

Your legs carry you wherever you need to go.

Your body’s natural processes, like urinating and excreting, work without complication.

Now, think about it: lose any one of these abilities, and life changes dramatically. These daily functions are not accidents—they are blessings from God, sustaining your life and health without you even asking. And that’s just the beginning.

Even as we sleep at night, God is at work. He protects us from dangers we are unaware of, including attacks from the enemy that we cannot perceive. We wake up in the morning, alive and well, often without a single thought of how miraculous that is. That’s heaven’s provision in action.

Many of God’s benefits are the help He has already placed within you. This is discussed in the post, All the Help You Need Is Already in You

Gratitude is the key that signals to heaven that you see and value these blessings. It shifts your focus from scarcity to abundance and trains your heart to recognize God’s hand in all things, big and small. As 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV) says:

"In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

The more intentional you are in practicing gratitude, the more blessings your heart will notice. Take time each day to thank God for things you normally overlook—your sight, your breath, your ability to move, your peace, even your morning coffee! The act of thanking Him for what you already have creates an atmosphere for more blessings to flow.

So today, let’s pause and reflect. What has God done for you that you often take for granted? Maybe it’s waking you up alive, keeping your family safe, or simply giving you peace of mind. Take a moment now, right where you are, and say it out loud: “Thank You, Jesus!”

True gratitude comes from a heart filled with the Word of God, which is why you should wrap yourself in it daily

Gratitude is more than politeness—it’s a spiritual principle that opens the door to heaven’s overflow. Begin to thank God intentionally, daily, and watch how your perspective changes, your heart softens, and your life attracts even more of His goodness.

Go ahead—say it with me: Thank You, Jesus!

How Character Determines Long-Term Success in Life.

When we talk about success, many people immediately think of money, fame, or power. But here’s the truth: long-term success isn’t built on talent alone, luck, or even opportunities. It’s built on character—the consistent choices you make, your integrity, and the way you handle life when no one is watching.

As you develop the character needed for long-term success, be aware that some challenges will come with pain. This is discussed in the post, Necessary Evil: Why Pain Is Part of Birthing Your Dreams

Character is like the foundation of a house. Without a solid foundation, no matter how beautiful the walls or roof are, the house will crumble over time. Similarly, no matter how skilled or intelligent you are, a weak character will eventually cause failure, setbacks, and missed opportunities.

Think about it: people who consistently rise to the top are not just talented—they are reliable, disciplined, honest, and humble. They build trust with others, and over time, doors open for them that remain closed to those who cut corners or act selfishly. Proverbs 10:9 (NKJV) reminds us:

"He who walks with integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will become known."

Your character influences your relationships, your reputation, and ultimately your ability to succeed. How do you treat people when there’s nothing to gain? How do you respond to challenges and setbacks? Do you maintain honesty even when lying could benefit you temporarily? These are the little choices that define your character—and they compound over time.

As you become successful, your previous achievements may no longer impress you. What should you do next? Learn more in the post, When the Level You Admire No Longer Impresses You

Let’s make this interactive: take a moment and ask yourself—how consistent are you in these areas? Are you someone people can count on, or do you cut corners when it’s convenient? Are you patient when life doesn’t go your way, or do you blame others? Your answers reveal whether your character is aligned with long-term success.

Another way character shapes success is through resilience. Life isn’t a straight path. You will face obstacles, failures, and disappointments. Character is what keeps you grounded and moving forward when the pressure is high. Joseph in the Bible is a perfect example. Sold into slavery by his brothers, falsely accused, and imprisoned, Joseph could have given up, become bitter, or compromised his integrity. Instead, he maintained his character, worked diligently, and trusted God. The result? He eventually became the second-in-command over all Egypt (Genesis 39-41).

Notice something important: his character didn’t just help him survive—it positioned him for long-term influence and success. That’s the principle for all of us. Your choices today—small acts of honesty, diligence, kindness, and humility—shape the trajectory of your future.

In life, we don’t compete—we complement. And if you must compete, do it rightly. Learn why some people fail when competing in the post, Why you fail when you compete without a competitive advantage. .

So, here’s the challenge: commit to building your character every day. Be honest even when no one notices. Be disciplined even when it’s hard. Treat people well even when they can’t benefit you. These habits might seem small now, but over time, they compound into a reputation and a life that attracts lasting success.

Remember this: talent opens doors, opportunity presents itself, but character keeps doors open and ensures you thrive once you step through. Ask yourself today—what kind of character are you cultivating for your future? Are you planting seeds for success that lasts a lifetime?

Spiritual Authority: How to Walk in Power, Righteousness, and Victory

There are many Christians who live below the standard God intends for them because they do not understand the scope of their spiritual authority.

Although I have written on this subject before, I still feel the need to share more—this time in a more practical and action-oriented way. Here, you will learn how to live out your spiritual authority in real life and experience true transformation

By the end of this lesson, you should be able to unlock your spiritual authority and learn how a believer can command the storms of life

It is very sad to see a Christian living in fear of demons when, in reality, demons should be afraid of them.

Many believers become afraid whenever there is a deliverance session. Some even worry that the demons might “jump on them.” Others feel powerless when they encounter demonic activities in their environment.

Because of this fear, they constantly look for a “deliverance minister” who will handle demons on their behalf.

What many of them do not understand is that every child of God has authority over demons, no matter how small or how powerful those demons may appear to be.

A proper understanding of this subject will remove fear and help you know and exercise your authority as a child of God. That is why we discussed it further in the post titled Fear Not: Understanding Your Authority as a Child of God.

The authority over demonic powers is not reserved for a few special ministers. It is part of the inheritance of every believer in Christ.

Unfortunately, when Christians are not aware of this authority, they end up living in unnecessary fear and dependence on others for something God has already given them power to handle.

Jesus made it clear that those who believe in Him would have authority over evil spirits. In the early church, ordinary believers exercised this authority as part of their daily Christian life. Casting out demons was not seen as a special ability reserved for a few individuals; it was a natural expression of the authority believers had in Christ.

Yet today, many Christians behave as though demons are more powerful than the authority God has given them. Instead of confronting darkness with confidence, they retreat in fear.

This should not be so.

When a believer truly understands who they are in Christ and the authority that comes with that identity, their perspective changes completely. Fear begins to disappear, and confidence in Christ grows stronger.

This is why it is important for us to keep studying and teaching about our spiritual authority. The more believers understand what Christ has already accomplished for them, the more boldly they will live out their faith.

So in this discussion, let us take some time to learn more about our authority in Christ and what it truly means for our daily lives.

Understanding this truth can completely transform how we respond to spiritual opposition and help us live the victorious life God has already provided for us. It will also help you recognize the authority you have over demons. Learn more in the post, You Have Power Over Demons and the Devil: Understanding Your Authority in Christ

What Spiritual Authority Means for Every Believer.

Many Christians love God sincerely, yet they live far below the level of authority God has given them. Not because God withheld anything from them, but because they simply do not understand what belongs to them in Christ.

I shared a story from my childhood about how my father refused to let a child of the devil exercise authority over him. It taught me a powerful lesson: ‘If you do not know your kingdom rights, fear will rule you

Spiritual authority is one of the most important truths every believer must understand. Without this understanding, a Christian can easily live in unnecessary fear, confusion, and defeat.

But what exactly does spiritual authority mean?

In simple terms, spiritual authority is the power and right God has given every believer to stand against the works of the enemy and live victoriously through Christ. It is not something reserved for pastors, prophets, or deliverance ministers alone. It belongs to every child of God.

Spiritual authority also includes the courage to stand up to your bully. We discussed this more deeply in the post, Stand Up to Your Bully: Confront Fear with Faith and Authority.

Jesus made this very clear during His ministry. In Luke 10:19, He told His disciples:

"Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

Notice something important in that statement. Jesus did not say He would give authority only to a few selected believers. He spoke to His followers and made it clear that authority over the enemy was part of their inheritance.

Yet today, many believers behave as if demons are more powerful than the authority Christ has given them. Some become afraid whenever they hear about demonic manifestations. Others feel helpless whenever they encounter spiritual opposition.

But this is not the picture the Bible presents.

Think about the early believers in the book of Acts. They did not live in fear of demonic powers. They confronted them with confidence because they understood the authority they had in the name of Jesus.

Spiritual authority does not mean arrogance or pride. It simply means standing in the position Christ has given you.

When a police officer stands in the middle of the road and raises his hand, vehicles stop—not because the officer is physically stronger than the cars, but because of the authority behind his uniform.

In the same way, the believer’s authority comes from Christ Himself.

However, authority must be understood and exercised to be effective. Imagine a police officer who forgets he has authority and runs away from traffic. The authority still exists, but it is not being used.

The same thing happens when believers do not understand their spiritual authority.

So how can a believer begin to walk in this authority?

First, know who you are in Christ. The moment you became a child of God, you were brought into a new spiritual position. You are no longer under the dominion of darkness.

Second, believe what God’s Word says about your authority. Faith grows when we continually expose our minds to the truth of Scripture.

Spiritual authority also gives you power over curses that often cause fear. We explored this more in the post, Don’t Be Afraid of Curses: Why No Curse Can Work Against a Child of God

Third, exercise your authority with confidence. When spiritual opposition arises, remember that you are not fighting alone. Christ has already won the victory.

Spiritual authority is not about shouting loudly or performing dramatic actions. It is about standing firmly in the victory Jesus has already secured.

When believers begin to understand this truth, fear begins to fade, confidence grows, and they start living the victorious life God intended for them.

It’s important to understand that, as part of your authority in Christ, no one can curse you. We explored this more in the post, No Man Can Curse Who God Has Blessed: Walking in True Freedom.

And that is exactly what spiritual authority means for every believer.

Why Many Christians Live Without Using Their Authority.

There are many reasons Christians do not use their spiritual authority, but in this discussion we will focus on only three.

A. Fear

Sadly, I have discovered that many Christians live in fear of the very things they should have control over. This fear prevents them from exercising the authority God has given them.

Think about this illustration. Imagine you are living in your father’s house, and your parents hire a maid to help in the house. This maid happens to be very big and intimidating.

Because of her appearance, you become afraid of her. Each time you see her, you feel too scared to move freely in your father’s house. You begin to think that if you exercise your freedom in the house, she might become angry and harm you.

Christians often fear not only the devil and evil spirits but also missing heaven. We explored this more in the post, Kick Out Fear of Not Making Heaven: Understanding God’s Good Pleasure

So you start living in fear.

You stop enjoying many of the privileges that belong to you as the child of the house. When food is served and you are not satisfied, you cannot even ask for more. Instead of living like a son, you begin to behave like a servant.

In this situation, the maid becomes the one acting like the son, while the real son lives like a slave.

This is exactly what is happening to many Christians today. Demons, the devil, and the systems of this world—things believers are meant to rule over—have become the very things ruling over them.

No wonder the Bible says:

“I have seen servants on horses, while princes walk on the ground like servants.”

— Ecclesiastes 10:7

This will not be your story anymore from today, in Jesus’ name.

B. Lack of Knowledge

Another reason many Christians fail to exercise their authority is lack of knowledge. Many believers simply do not know that they have authority in Christ.

Think about lawyers. One reason they are confident is because they know the law. You cannot easily harass a knowledgeable lawyer because you might end up getting yourself into serious trouble.

In the same way, if a child who is the heir of a kingdom does not understand his position, his rights, and the territory under his authority, he may end up being controlled by servants.

Let us go back to our example of the son and the maid. The moment the son grows and becomes aware of who he is in his father’s house, everything changes.

He will begin to give instructions confidently, and the maid will naturally submit to those instructions. Why? Because he is the rightful heir of the house and deserves the same respect given to his parents.

In the same way, when believers understand who they are in Christ, they begin to exercise their spiritual authority with confidence.

Few Christians realize that they have authority over how long they live. We explored this more in the post, You Have Authority Over Life and Death: Biblical Insights and True Stories

So let me ask you a question:

Do you know your kingdom rights?

C. Lack of Training

The third reason many Christians do not exercise their authority is lack of training on how to use it.

It is not that opportunities for learning do not exist. The problem is that many believers do not make themselves available for such training.

Many people are so busy that they cannot even spend an hour listening to a seasoned man or woman of God teaching from experience.

Yet most of the practical training on spiritual authority often happens in places like:

Prayer meetings

Sunday school classes

Evangelism activities

Deliverance sessions

Sermons and Bible teachings

Unfortunately, many believers no longer prioritize these gatherings. They are often too occupied with work and other responsibilities to make time for spiritual growth.

As a result, they remain unaware of how to exercise the authority God has already given them.

But the good news is that this can change. When believers overcome fear, gain knowledge, and submit themselves to proper training, they begin to walk in the authority that rightfully belongs to them in Christ.

The Power of Righteousness as Your Defense Against the Devil.

To effectively exercise your spiritual authority, you must walk in righteousness. In the book of Ephesians 6, the Bible tells us to put on the breastplate of righteousness.

Learn why righteousness is your only defense against your enemy in the post, Your Only Defense Against the Devil’s Arrow: Understanding Righteousness

The breastplate in a soldier’s armor is meant for protection. In the same way, righteousness serves as spiritual protection for the believer. Without righteousness, a person can easily become a prey to the powers of darkness.

To better understand this, let us look at righteousness in two broad categories.

A. The Gift of Righteousness

When you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, He gave you the gift of righteousness.

This gift makes God see you the same way He sees Jesus. It also causes God to love you with the same love He has for His Son. This is not something we earned by our works; it is something we received by grace through faith.

Because it is a gift, you cannot grow in it, and you cannot diminish it by your efforts. We did not obtain it by our works, so we cannot maintain it by our works either. The only way to lose this position is to deliberately turn away from Christ.

When a believer understands this truth, confidence grows. The believer begins to realize that he or she stands before God in the righteousness of Christ. This understanding makes a Christian bold and fearless, becoming a terror to the kingdom of darkness.

B. The Deeds of Righteousness

While the gift of righteousness is given to us when we become born again, the deeds of righteousness are the choices we make daily to live in a way that pleases God.

Think of the gift of righteousness as a white garment that Christ has given you. It is pure and clean. God expects you to keep that garment clean by living a life that reflects your new identity in Christ.

This is where intentional living comes in.

The Bible instructs us to mortify certain behaviors, meaning we must deliberately put them to death. We are also told to stay away from certain things and to live a life worthy of the calling we have received.

God does not expect us to stain the white garment He has given us with sinful living.

When believers do not live righteously, they give the devil an opportunity to accuse them. Sin weakens our confidence and can hinder our ability to stand boldly in spiritual battles.

In a sense, sin works like a tracking device. Just as a tracking device makes it easy to locate someone’s position, sin makes it easier for the enemy to find areas of weakness in a person’s life.

Once there is unrepented sin in a person’s life, the enemy may try to use it as an entry point to create trouble.

This is why believers are encouraged to live righteously.

Righteousness protects us, strengthens our confidence before God, and helps us stand firmly in the authority Christ has given us.

So, guard your heart, live intentionally, and stay righteous.

Speaking God’s Word as a Weapon of Authority.

One of the most powerful weapons God has given to believers is His Word. Many Christians know the Bible is important, but few realize that God’s Word is also a weapon of spiritual authority. When spoken with faith, it carries power that can change situations, silence the enemy, and establish God’s will on earth.

Discover the power of declaring God’s Word in the post, Let the Weak Say I Am Strong: The Power of Speaking God’s Word

Words are powerful. In fact, the very world we live in today came into existence through spoken words. In the beginning, God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God did not struggle or negotiate with darkness—He simply spoke His Word, and creation responded.

In the same way, believers are called to speak God’s Word in the situations they face.

A perfect example is the life of Jesus. When He was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, He did not argue, panic, or try to reason with the enemy. Instead, He responded with a simple but powerful phrase: “It is written.” Every temptation the devil brought was defeated by the Word of God spoken from the mouth of Jesus.

This teaches us something very important: the Word of God in your mouth is a weapon.

Many Christians believe the Word of God only works when it is silently read or quietly believed. But the Bible shows us that there is power in declaring God’s Word aloud. When you speak God’s promises over your life, you are aligning your situation with heaven’s authority.

Imagine a police officer standing in the middle of a busy road. The officer may not be physically stronger than the cars approaching him, yet when he raises his hand, vehicles stop. Why? Because he speaks and acts with authority backed by the government.

In the same way, when believers speak the Word of God, they are not speaking on their own authority. They are speaking with the authority of the Kingdom of God behind them.

Read my story of how I avoided punishment as a child by speaking God’s Word in the post, How I Avoided Punishment Through Faith: A Lesson in Speaking God’s Word.

When fear comes, you can declare what God has said about you: that He has not given you the spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. When challenges arise, you can speak the promises of God over your situation. When the enemy tries to intimidate you, you can respond with the truth of Scripture.

Speaking God’s Word does two powerful things. First, it strengthens your faith. As you speak the Word, you remind yourself of what God has promised. Your confidence begins to rise because you are focusing on God’s truth instead of your circumstances.

Second, it resists the enemy. Darkness cannot stand where the light of God’s Word is declared. Just as Jesus used Scripture to defeat temptation, believers today can also use the Word as a weapon to stand against spiritual attacks.

However, this weapon is only effective if you know the Word. You cannot speak what you do not know. This is why studying the Bible, meditating on it, and storing it in your heart is so important.

The more God’s Word fills your heart, the more naturally it will flow from your mouth when situations arise.

So learn to speak God’s Word daily. Declare His promises over your life, your family, and your future. When challenges appear, respond the same way Jesus did: “It is written.”

Because when believers speak God’s Word in faith, they are not just talking—they are exercising spiritual authority.

Be aware that sometimes, when God’s Word is spoken, hell may break loose. This is explained in more detail in the post, When Hell Breaks Loose After God’s Word: Why Victory Is Near.’ Such opposition does not mean the Word will not prevail—it only shows that the Word has begun to work, and victory is certain

How Faith Empowers Believers to Overcome Fear and Attacks.

Fear is one of the most common obstacles that Christians face. It creeps in quietly, affects decisions, and often keeps believers from stepping into their full potential in God. Whether it’s fear of failure, fear of the unknown, or fear of spiritual attacks, the Bible makes it clear that fear is not from God. Faith, on the other hand, empowers us to rise above fear and stand strong in the face of any attack.

When doubt arises in your life, it is a sign that the devil is at work, trying to steal what God is already doing. Learn more in the post, The Devil’s Assignment: How Doubt Is Used to Stop People from Serving God

Have you ever wondered why some people remain calm in situations that would make others panic? It’s not luck or natural strength—it’s faith in God. Faith gives believers the courage to face trials because it shifts the focus from the size of the problem to the greatness of God.

Think about David facing Goliath. He was just a young shepherd boy, and the enemy before him was a giant warrior, experienced and heavily armed. To the eyes of men, fear would have been natural. Yet David declared confidently, “The battle is the Lord’s” (1 Samuel 17:47). David’s faith empowered him to confront the giant, not with swords or shields, but with trust in God’s power.

Faith is also what enables believers to overcome spiritual attacks. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:16 to take up the shield of faith, which protects us from the fiery darts of the enemy. These “fiery darts” represent doubt, fear, temptation, and spiritual attacks designed to make us stumble. But faith acts as a shield, allowing us to deflect fear and stay grounded in God’s promises.

Here’s an important principle: faith is activated when we act on God’s Word. You may know Scripture, but if you don’t believe it in your heart and apply it in your life, it cannot empower you. Just like a muscle, faith grows stronger the more it is exercised. Every time you trust God in a challenging situation, you are building your spiritual strength.

Ask yourself: What fears are holding me back today? What attacks are making me doubt God’s power in my life? When you identify them, you can respond with faith. Speak God’s promises out loud. Declare that He is your protector, your provider, and your defender. Faith responds, fear retreats.

Faith also gives perspective. When fear whispers, “You can’t handle this,” faith reminds you, “God is in control, and nothing can separate me from His love” (Romans 8:38–39). It replaces panic with peace, despair with hope, and doubt with confidence.

Finally, faith connects you to God’s power. A believer walking in faith is not relying on their own strength but on the unlimited power of God working through them. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, empowering you to face fears and overcome attacks.

So, start today: identify the fears that have been holding you back, declare God’s promises over your life, and act in faith. Remember, fear loses its grip when faith takes the lead. The challenges may come, but with faith as your shield, you will not be shaken.

Faith is more than belief—it is power in action. And when you walk in it, you will see fear defeated, attacks nullified, and God’s victory manifest in your life.

Real-Life Examples of Christians Exercising Spiritual Authority.

In this discussion, we will explore a few real-life examples of how to exercise your spiritual authority. I will take two examples from the Bible, one from my dad, and one from my own life.

The purpose of this is simple: to show you that once you are born again, you already have the authority to act in the spiritual realm. You do not need to be a spiritual giant to see results.

Your spiritual authority is one of the kingdom rights you receive as a child of God. The only things that can limit your results are fear or a failure to act in faith.

Let’s look at the examples:

1. Jesus’ Authority Over Demons

Jesus gave us the ultimate example of how to exercise authority over demons. In Mark 5:1-13, we see Him casting out a legion of demons from a man in the region of the Gadarenes. He did this simply by speaking the Word.

The lesson here is clear: there is power in your words. When spoken in faith and in the authority of Christ, your words can command and defeat the works of darkness. Learning to use your words wisely is one of the keys to walking in spiritual authority.

2. Paul’s Authority Over an Unclean Spirit

Another biblical example is the story of Paul and the demon-possessed slave girl in Acts 16:16-18. This girl followed Paul and his companions, proclaiming truths about God but under demonic influence.

Paul did not argue or tolerate the spirit. He spoke firmly in the name of Jesus, and the demon immediately left her.

Notice this: even if a message seems “good,” if it comes from the wrong source, it can bring harm. Do not accept blessings or publicity from the devil. Spiritual authority allows you to reject and command away anything from the enemy.

3. My Dad: Authority Over Nature

My dad demonstrated spiritual authority over nature. On one occasion, he spoke to a storm, and the storm obeyed. This is a real-life example of exercising authority not just over spiritual forces but over the natural realm.

I’ve discussed this story fully in “The Man Who Talked to the Storm: A Real-Life Lesson in Christian Authority.”

4. My Own Experience

I have also exercised spiritual authority in many situations. One example is shared in “Raising Spiritually Powerful Children: Teaching Kingdom Rights from Early Childhood.”

The key takeaway here is that spiritual authority is not just theory—it must be practiced. You learn more through action than by reading alone.

Use your authority against sickness, the devil, demons, nature, and even threatening animals. I do not mean walking presumptuously into danger, but if a wild animal or aggressive dog threatens you unexpectedly, you can speak in the authority of Christ and command it to stop.

After learning all these, you should stop waiting on God to fight the Devil, you should learn to use your authority.

Final Thought

Spiritual authority is a God-given right. Do not wait for someone else to act for you. Start practicing today. Speak God’s Word, walk in faith, and command in the name of Jesus.

When exercised rightly, this authority brings freedom, protection, and victory over every challenge you face.
