Many times, we read our own meanings into the Bible instead of reading what the Bible is actually saying. When we do this, we fail to get the full benefit of God’s Word and miss out on Kingdom principles for effective ministry.
It is like a king saying, “I have paid for your bills. Go and get whatever you want,” and you turn around to say, “The king will pay for my bills.”
You can wait forever, and nothing will change—because the price has already been paid, yet you are waiting for it to be paid again.
If you ask the king to pay the bills, he will reply, “I already paid for them, and I told you so.”
This illustration helps us understand Scripture better.
Colossians 1:13
“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.”
The Scripture clearly says Christ has delivered us from the power of darkness through the power of the word of God.
But this is how some people read it in their minds: “Who will deliver us from the power of darkness, and will translate us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” To them, deliverance is still in the future. How do I know? Listen to their prayers. Many people pray deliverance prayers over the same issues year after year. Sometimes, I wonder when exactly they expect God to answer those prayers.
One common example is prayers about correcting foundations or being delivered from the family strongman. My question is simple: when the foundation is corrected and the strongman is defeated, how will you know? I am not against such prayers. But if we truly believe God’s Word and read it as it is written, we will pray less out of fear and more out of understanding.
When you listen carefully to how some Christians pray and talk, you can tell they either misunderstand the Bible or do not fully believe it. Someone once read this verse during prayer and said, “Pray that God will deliver us from the powers of darkness.” But is that really what the verse says?
Please, let us learn to read the Bible correctly and understand how to wrap yourself in the word of God and live in the reality it has already provided.
Whatever the Word says Jesus has done is done. Whatever the Word says you are is who you are, regardless of what you feel or experience. Believe the Word exactly as it is written. That is the only way to enjoy its full benefits.
God bless you.
