These are some of the things that make me trust God even more.
I came from a village that was very strong in charms. As a little boy, I witnessed children being taken to shrines to be fortified against gunshots whenever there was a threat of war.
I used to wonder: if these things don’t work, why would people rely on them? I also knew people who went to juju men for charms that supposedly made them immune to cuts from metal. They would claim that if you used a machete, knife, or razor blade on them, it would not penetrate their skin.
I also witnessed strange things—people singing and laughing without being physically present, yet still claiming to see and know what others were doing. All of this convinced me, even as a child, that life is deeply spiritual.
Here’s my point: if the devil can offer people forms of protection—even if limited or deceptive—then how much more God, who created the heavens and the earth?
After all, the devil only operates with power that was originally permitted under God’s sovereignty. So if Satan can offer a level of protection or influence, then God—who is all-powerful—can protect His children even more completely, not only from spiritual attacks but also from physical danger.
This truth became even more real to me one day while reading Isaiah 54:16–17 (CEV):
[16] Don’t forget that I created metalworkers who make weapons over burning coals. I also created armies that can bring destruction.
[17] Weapons made to attack you won’t be successful; words spoken against you won’t hurt at all. My servants, Jerusalem is yours! I, the Lord, promise to bless you with victory.
As I read it, it felt as though God was standing right beside me, saying: “I created those who manufacture weapons, and I also determine their limits. No weapon formed against you shall prosper.”
I paused, read it again, and something deep inside me shifted. I thought, “God, this sounds too good to be true.” But then I remembered—God cannot lie. His word is final.
Now, does this mean I would carelessly put myself in harm’s way or test danger? Of course not. But it does mean that I carry a deep confidence: that my life is in God’s hands.
And so even in dangerous situations, I believe that I will not die outside of God’s timing—because His word is true.
Yes, I believe God can protect His children not only from spiritual forces but also from physical danger.
