Right from childhood, I have known God as my Father. He has taught me many things, and one of the most powerful lessons is that I will receive whatever I speak. Let me share a short story with you. When I was in secondary school—probably in JSS 3—all the students in our class did something wrong. The teacher decided to punish us with a specific number of strokes of the cane. Naturally, we were all reluctant to submit to his punishment. This is a simple illustration of how faith and obedience release God’s miraculous power.
Then, he changed the method. He said the first person would receive one stroke, the second two strokes, the third three strokes, and so on. Students immediately started rushing forward to take the lesser number of strokes. I, however, stayed back, quietly observing the whole drama. Speak what you desire to see.
My friend encouraged me to go forward, saying I should take my turn so I wouldn’t get too many strokes. But as I stood there, I noticed the cane strokes increasing from person to person. At that moment, I calmly told my friends, “This man will not beat me.”
Eventually, the teacher got tired and told all the students to return to their seats. He said he would continue from where he stopped the next day. When he returned, he asked all the students who had not yet been caned to stand. Some stood, some didn’t. Then he said we could sit down, for he had forgiven us.
I laughed quietly to myself, because I knew I would not be beaten—and that’s exactly what happened. This experience taught me a simple but profound lesson: when you speak with faith and trust in God, what you declare can come to pass. Words carry power, and faith makes them effective. The power of the Word of God.
