The Devil’s Assignment: How Doubt Is Used to Stop People from Serving God.

I was in my room one day when the devil showed up. What followed was a short but revealing conversation—one that taught me an important lesson about faith and doubt. It showed me clearly how faith and obedience unlock God’s miracle: when we stand firm in trust and act according to His Word, we resist the enemy’s lies and position ourselves to experience God’s power and intervention in our lives.

Below is how the discussion went:

Satan: How are you sure there is God?

Me: If there is no God, then my Father does not exist.

The devil understood why I made that statement. He could perceive my conviction. I did not speak out of mere belief—I spoke from experience. I have a relationship with God, and He communicates with me like a father communicates with his child. My confidence was rooted in personal encounter, not just theory.

Then he asked another question:

Satan: How are you sure it is God who is talking to you?

Me: If I am not sure it is God who is talking to me, then you also do not exist.

Immediately, he disappeared.

That moment revealed something powerful to me: the enemy thrives on doubt, but he cannot stand firm in the presence of conviction.

The primary assignment of the devil is to prevent mankind from serving God. One of his most effective tools is not force—it is doubt. He plants subtle questions in the mind, not necessarily to get immediate answers, but to weaken your confidence in God over time.

He whispers thoughts like:

  • “Is God really there?”

  • “Did God truly speak to you?”

  • “Are you sure you are not deceiving yourself?”

These thoughts may seem harmless at first, but if entertained repeatedly, they can grow into unbelief. That is why it is important to recognize when doubt is being introduced into your mind. Not every thought that crosses your mind comes from you—some are planted deliberately.

Faith is built through relationship, but doubt grows through neglect. When you stop reinforcing your faith through prayer, the Word, and fellowship with God, you create space for doubt to take root. This is why it’s crucial to kill evil thoughts before they kill you—address negative, destructive ideas immediately, replacing them with God’s truth so your faith remains strong and unshakable.

How to Respond to Doubt

1. Stand on Your Experience with God
Just like in the conversation, your personal encounters with God are powerful. Reflect on what He has done in your life. Let your past experiences strengthen your present faith.

2. Reject Doubt Immediately
Do not entertain doubtful thoughts. Address them quickly. Speak truth over them and refuse to give them space in your mind.

3. Strengthen Your Conviction Daily
Spend time in prayer and in the Word. The more you grow in your relationship with God, the less room doubt will have in your life.

4. Speak with Confidence
Your words matter. When doubt arises, respond with boldness and conviction. Faith is not passive—it speaks.

Your mind is the battleground—guard your thoughts as diligently as you can.

Final Thought

Doubt is one of the enemy’s most subtle weapons, but it loses its power when confronted with firm faith. The devil cannot stay where there is clarity, conviction, and confidence in God.

Learn to recognize when doubt is being planted in your mind, and refuse to accept it. Stand firm in what you know, in what you have experienced, and in what God has revealed to you. This is why God empowers those who act on His Word—because obedience strengthens faith, frustrates the enemy, and positions you to see His power at work. When your faith is steady, the enemy has no choice but to retreat.
