The Man Who Talked to Storms: A Real-Life Lesson in Christian Authority.

Introduction

We have all read about storms in the Bible and heard about winds that obeyed commands and waves that bowed to authority. These stories can sometimes feel distant, almost like events locked in ancient times. But what if I told you that I have personally witnessed a man speak to a storm—and it obeyed? Not in Bible days, not in a story, but in real life, right before my eyes.

There are two people I know who calmed storms. One of them is known by everyone reading this. The second is not known by everyone, but to me, he is a living legend. His life made something I had read in Scripture become real and practical. He showed me that what we often admire from a distance can actually be experienced, and it opened my understanding of the authority of a believer.

The First Storm-Calmer

We all know that Jesus calmed the storm. In Mark 4:39, the Bible says, “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” This is one of the most powerful demonstrations of authority in Scripture, where nature itself responded instantly to His command.

I do not know of any other person in Scripture who commanded a storm in that exact way. If you do, you can share it with me. But this post is not primarily about Jesus calming the storm. It is about someone who made that Scripture come alive to me—someone who showed me that believers today can walk in that same authority.

Storms in the Village

There was a time in our village when heavy rainstorms were truly terrifying. The winds were so violent that we would wake up in the morning and discover that the roofs of houses had been blown off. Entire rooftops gone overnight, leaving families exposed and vulnerable. It was not a rare occurrence—it was something people genuinely feared.

When rain began to fall, there was always uncertainty. You did not know whether you would wake up and still find your roof in place, or whether it would be lying somewhere far away. The experience created tension and anxiety whenever dark clouds gathered. Everyone braced themselves for possible damage.

Now here is what made the situation even more surprising. This particular man lived in a mud house—not a cement structure. It did not look strong or secure. By every logical standard, his house should have been the first to collapse under such pressure. It simply did not have the physical strength to withstand violent storms.

Yet something unusual kept happening. The roofs of stronger, cement-built houses would be torn off by the wind. But this “weaker” mud house would remain standing. It did not make sense naturally. There was something at work that went beyond physical structure, which points us to a deeper truth about how to unlock your spiritual authority.

The Secret

Then I discovered what this man would do whenever there were signs of a storm. Whether it was during the day or in the middle of the night, once the wind began to gather strength, he would step outside. He did not wait in fear or hide indoors—he confronted the situation directly.

He would begin to speak to the storm. He would command it to leave his house alone. He would tell it clearly not to touch his roof. There was no panic in his voice, no hesitation in his actions—only boldness and authority.

One day, the storm became particularly aggressive. The wind actually lifted part of his roof slightly, as if it was about to tear it away. But he stood firm and commanded the storm to put the roof back. And remarkably, it did.

He continued this practice consistently—speaking, commanding, refusing to fear. Over time, it was as if the storms stopped targeting his house altogether. While others suffered losses, his home remained preserved. It was a pattern that could not be ignored.

Today, his house is surrounded by many others, and the storms are no longer as fierce as they used to be. But the lesson from those days remains deeply engraved in my heart. It was not just about survival—it was about authority in action, a reminder that as believers we are called to understand that you have authority over life and death.

So Who Is This Man?

This man is my father. He practically demonstrated to us that the authority Jesus gave believers is real. It is not theoretical, not symbolic, and not limited to Bible stories. It is something that can be exercised in everyday life by those who understand it.

He showed us that faith is not just something you talk about in church or read about in Scripture. It is something you live out. It is something you act on. It is something you demonstrate when situations demand a response.

I am deeply privileged to have such a father. There are many other ways he demonstrated the power available to a believer, and perhaps I will share those experiences another time. But this one alone was enough to change how I see storms forever, teaching me a sobering truth: don’t wait on God to do what He has already given you power to do.

Conclusion

Storms are not limited to weather alone. There are financial storms, health storms, family storms, and career storms. Different kinds of pressures arise in life, and many believers respond with fear, panic, or frustration. They cry, they run, and they complain.

But Jesus did not panic when faced with a storm. He spoke. And through my father’s example, I learned that the authority Jesus demonstrated did not expire with the early church. It is still available today to those who believe and understand it.

You also have the power to speak to the storms in your life. Not with fear, not with doubt, but with conviction. Storms respond to authority, and authority responds to revelation. When you truly understand who you are in Christ, your response to life will change.

You will stop begging storms to calm down—and you will start commanding them to be still.
